Home / two musical works for holy week

I am very excited to tell you that my musical compositions are available for downloading on www.MyOpus.com, a site where I self publish my works. The site hosts music, both sacred and secular, allows you to see and hear a preview and purchase them as digital copies.

Today I have published two pieces for Holy Week on MyOpus.com:

O Vos Omnes, title page to a work by Francis Koerber

O Vos Omnes, title page to a work by Francis Koerber

O Vos Omnes is the 13th movement taken from my larger work, Et Lux In Tenebrae which was premiered on Good Friday of 2012 at Our Lady of the Mountains. Here are some links for your perusal.

Sing, My Tongue, The Glorious Battle

Sing, My Tongue, The Glorious Battle, title page of an arrangement by Francis Koerber

The second piece is an arrangement based on the Hymn tune PICARDY. The text is that famous work by Venantius Fortunatus, Sing, My Tongue, The Glorious Battle. I created this arrangement to be performed with congregation. It boasts a lush chromatic harmony. The final verse is composed to give the congregation a sense of foreboding. This is accomplished by using a minimal texture of two doubled voices (ST and AB) that move in contrary motion with a sprinkling of staggered text for the choir while the congregation continues to sing the melody.

What gives it gravity is the pedal point (a low D played on the organ). The last three measures introduces the unexpected and very stark contrast of an ascending solo soprano line.
